by land or by sea
Our handlers are fully equipped to address any geese issue whether on land, or on water.
How long does it take?
Most properties take 4-6 wks for the initial clearing and then it depends on a variety of factors based on your property's specifications, including the type of geese present (resident or migrating), time of year, etc.
Why are Canadian Geese such a problem?
There are multiple problems associated with the presence of geese.
-
During nesting season, geese can become quite aggressive creating substantial safety concerns for people and pets.
-
The average goose leaves about a 1 1/2 Lbs. of feces per day, known to carry Ecoli and other harmful pathogens which can harm your lawn, your pets, and your children.
How much does your service cost?
The cost depends on factors specific to your property including size and terrain, water sources on the property, number of sites, and general accessibility. A firm quote can usually be given within hours of the initial demonstration.
Is the poop harmful for my kids or my pets?
Yes, goose poop is harmful for both pets and kids due to multiple bacteria found in their droppings, including E. coli bacteria, a dangerous pathogen.
The dogs chase away the geese. Won’t the geese just come back?
Yes, usually at first the geese will come back, which is why we have an initial clearing time period for all our clients where we must patrol each location multiple times throughout the day until the geese are conditioned to the Border Collie’s harassment. The more the geese fear the seeming threat of a potential predator, the less likely they will spend time at that location, and move on to a less threatening location.
Are your dogs friendly?
Absolutely. In this line of work, our professional dogs must work well with all types people. However, on properties like school campuses, we will still keep dogs leashed, to ease any parental concerns.
I thought geese migrate. Why does it seem like they are here year-round?
While many people associate geese with seasonal migration, not all geese follow traditional migratory patterns. In recent decades, an increasing number of Canada Geese have become non-migratory, choosing to stay in one area year-round. This behavior change is due to several factors including abundant food sources, Global Warming, safe nesting sites, and human interference like feeding the geese.
Where do the geese go after you chase them?
The geese will fly to a nearby location where they feel less threatened.
Do the dogs hurt the geese?
No. Border Collies, known for their intelligence and herding instincts, are used to create a sense of danger for the geese without causing physical harm. Our method of geese control is approved and endorsed by both the Humane Society and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Why do you specifically use Border Collies? Why won’t my own dog get the job done?
Border Collies excel at goose control because they mimic the behavior of natural predators like wolves, instilling fear in the geese without causing harm. Their unmatched intelligence allows handlers to direct them off-leash using voice and whistle commands, ensuring precise and controlled movements. This breed's superior listening skills and focus make them less likely to get distracted or run into traffic, providing a safer and more effective solution than most other dog breeds.
How long does each patrol last?
As long as it takes to rid your property of any geese.
At our property, we have ducks and exotic birds that we enjoy. Will your dogs chase these birds away also?
No. Our Border Collies are specifically trained to chase only Canada geese. They will not bother other birds.
Every year in the spring, the same pairs of geese show up on my property. Why?
Canadian Geese are mates for life and the pair always return to the general location of their previous nest and/or where they were born.
